How many times have you tried that diet, decided to get that bike out or subscribed to that gym membership - and now the real question - how long did it last - my bet - not long at all. The reason is that we tend to get bored with these things if we don't see instant results. People are all different as well, so different methods for dieting and keeping fit work for different people. Some prefer to exercise like mad, some choose diets and some people simply drink tea - admitedly green tea is said to help with weight loss. You can even learn how to make your own Green Tea!

It's like learning a new language or an instrument, if we can't do it right away we get fed up, lose interest and inevitably give up.

For my money, keeping fit has to be fun and enjoyable. It's nice going for that bike ride on a lovely sunny day, but what happens when winter kicks in and it starts to get cold and rainy. As for diets, well they have to be interesting too, who wants to spend 3 weeks eating cabbage soup - certainly not me.

For a diet to be effective, not only does it have to help you to lose weight but it has to help you keep that weight off - it has to help you change your way of thinking about food, and without becoming too boring it has to make you understand what foods do what. I have to admit, I'm not a great fan of exercise, but as I'm lucky enough to have a vegetable plot and grow my own food, I'm able to get quite a workout there, and do you know what - it's free, as are many other activities that can keep you fit and healthy. You don't have to pay that extortionate gym membership than force yourself down the gym 3 times a week and hide in the corner doing your crunches - that's just not fun.

Even using the Wii Fit is a good way of getting some exercise - OK fair enough the Wii fit costs money - an initial outlay - but how much did that Gym membership cost you that you try to avoid using - at least the Wii is in your own home so there's really no excuse when it's raining, you don't have to make sure you have the best designer outfit to avoid any embarrassment out in public - oh and the best part - you get a virtual party on your birthday - maybe on that day you can eat a little cake!!!
